"My Reflections on the ISCB Innovator Award: Inspiring Future Innovators

Now, before I take questions, I would like to take a few minutes to conclude with my reflections on receiving the ISCB Innovator Award.

An award like this is always given to one among many deserving candidates. Therefore, I believe that the recipient should be given greater responsibility rather than privilege. For me, the true meaning of this award lies not in the award itself but in the message I convey from this platform and its impact on the world.

As a professor and scientist, one of the most rewarding aspects is inspiring young people and influencing their lives. I sincerely hope that my Innovator Award and AI advances I’ve made will inspire many, and that their aspirations will contribute to solving significant problems in biological sciences, medicine, and society through challenging research.

Along the way, I’d like to say to young trainees: always remember the essence of research. The goal is not to publish your papers in Nature or NeurIPS. The true goal of research and science is to expand the boundaries of human knowledge and capabilities, ultimately creating a better world for humanity. Focus on the future and fundamental values rather than immediate results. Concentrate on ideas, methodologies, and data that most effectively expand the limits of human knowledge and abilities. The results will follow when you pursue these priorities.

If you establish these basic principles, you can genuinely rejoice in the achievements of your colleagues and others, setting your own standards for evaluating research outcomes.

You may face various difficulties in research or life. In such moments, focus only on what you can do and do not waste time on things you cannot control.

At this moment, I think of all the young trainees who might be inspired by my research. The potential of AI in biology is limitless and boundless. I hope you will never shy away from setting ambitious goals, not be afraid of challenges, and relentlessly move towards the right goals. No matter what obstacles you face, you can overcome them and achieve your aspirations.

Thank you for your attention!  Now, I welcome any questions you may have."
